Meet Our Team

What is a Midwife?

The Old English translation of "midwife" is "with-woman." As midwives, we believe that our place is with women, providing information, giving support, and helping women make informed decisions about their individual care.

Our strength lies in our ability to treat women's health, including childbirth, as a normal, natural part of life. We believe in evidence-based care and avoid interventions when possible. Schedule an appointment or tour at Plano Birthplace today.

Having birthed two of her children with midwives, Jeannine felt safe, supported, and empowered. The midwives’ wonderful, compassionate care inspired her to become a midwife. She wanted to help other women have an empowering birth experience like her own. Jeannine obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University.

Working as a nurse in both hospital L&D units and a freestanding birth center for over ten years, Jeannine was privileged to have been part of over 2,000 labor and delivery experiences. As an L&D nurse, she witnessed firsthand the positive outcomes that occurred when midwives were the providers. Midwives provided safe, evidenced-based care of women and their babies while simultaneously ensuring women birthed with dignity and respect with minimal medical interventions. Birth was honored, and women were empowered and pleased with their birth experience.

Jeannine went back to school and obtained her Master of Science in Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University in 2015. Now, as a Certified Nurse Midwife, Jeannine’s philosophy is based on providing the safest, best evidence-based care that values and respects women, labor, and the birthing process. As a midwife, Jeannine respects and has confidence in women and their capabilities during childbirth. In 2017, she opened the first birth center in Plano, TX: Plano Birthplace. She offers respectful, anticipatory, flexible care for women and their families in the community. Midwifery care takes place in partnership with women, recognizing the right to self-determination, and is based on providing supportive care that is respectful, personalized, continuous, and non-authoritarian. Research has shown that midwifery-led care, centered on supportive relationships, significantly improves women’s overall health, birth outcomes, and maternal satisfaction.

Lindsay is originally from a small town in Oklahoma. She came to Texas to attend Texas Christian University and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2013. After graduation, she began working in Dallas on a labor and delivery unit at a large county hospital. Her passion for midwifery was sparked as she worked with certified nurse midwives for the first time.

Inspired by the nurse midwives, Lindsay knew her calling was to serve women in the DFW area through midwifery care. Along with six years of working as a registered nurse in labor and delivery, Lindsay gained both in-hospital and out-of-hospital experiences during her time as a student nurse-midwife. She graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University in 2019.

Lindsay not only has professional experience with nurse midwives but also personal experience. In December 2018, she gave birth to her daughter Lily at Plano Birthplace, surrounded by her husband, sister, and loving support team.

Lindsay is passionate about providing personalized care and believes trusting your team of providers is one of the most important aspects of care. She believes women should be able to make the right choice for their families based on shared decision-making.

More Info About Dr. Fogwell

Ted E. Fogwell, MD, is our collaborating and sponsoring physician at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. My relationship with him allows me to continue to safely care for my clients, whether they give birth at the birth center or the hospital.

Why Did Plano Birthplace Choose Dr. Fogwell?

Dr. Fogwell is board-certified in OB-GYN and is further trained in minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery. Over the last 15 years, first as a labor and delivery nurse and now as a certified nurse-midwife, I have witnessed first-hand the kind and compassionate care his patients receive. I have observed Dr. Fogwell in the operation room multiple times performing C-sections as well as other gynecological surgeries. He is a masterfully skilled, meticulous surgeon who can calmly and proficiently handle complex, high-risk problems. He is by far the best surgeon I have had the privilege of working with in my career. If anyone in my family, including myself, needed gynecological surgery, I would choose Dr. Fogwell as our surgeon.

I have accompanied Dr. Fogwell on several mission trips to Guatemala. While on these life-changing medical mission trips, I have watched Dr. Fogwell generously give his time and expertise to bring much-needed medical treatment to women needing surgical care. He is an expert on taking care of women and continues to stay up to date on the latest research about medications and evidence-based care. Having such an expert on my collaborative team allows me to continue giving top-notch, evidence-based care that helps keep my clients safe and well. I have won the collaborating physician lottery with Dr. Fogwell on my team.

As part of his overall care, Dr. Fogwell provides his patients with a warm, friendly environment. He states, "I work with my patients to develop individualized treatment. My focus is patient-first, and my goal is always optimal health for my patients. I believe trust and honesty are key elements in the patient-physician relationship, and I work closely with my patients to keep them well."

Most of our clients at Plano Birthplace will remain low-risk and not require direct contact with our collaborating physician. However, rest assured that I am working behind the scenes with him to ensure if anything arises in your care that requires medical intervention, I can and will continue to provide you with the best evidence-based care. I meet monthly to discuss any issues that may require collaboration or co-management. I rely on his experience and expertise to help ensure that if something occurs that requires medical interventions, we can do what is best for you and your baby. He will become involved only if something requires his medical expertise. If you give birth at the hospital, you will most likely meet him, as he may be involved in your care.

Our Testimonials

“This time, I found a midwife whose single piece of advice was, ‘You are a strong, empowered woman whose body is capable of birthing your baby. You know and will know what to do and when. Trust yourself. Trust your body.’ I left her office and sat in my car and cried. At 30 weeks pregnant, I had finally found someone who believed in me and supported my choice for a natural childbirth. I immediately transferred from the local OBGYN to drive an hour away to Jeannine at Plano Birthplace.”
- Cassandra Cardwell

“I would highly recommend Plano Birthplace because not only is the facility beautiful, but Jeannine and her team are so encouraging and supportive, making natural birth such a beautiful experience. I am just so thankful to Jeannine for teaching me to trust my body instead of telling me what to do before and during labor. It was so empowering to be able to have the natural birth I’ve dreamed of. I can’t thank her enough!!!”
- Mindy Crenshaw

“I am proud to be a first-time mom and handle labor and birth as well as I did. As a first-time mom, you don’t know what to expect, and labor is hard, but making it through each contraction and catching my own baby will be an experience I will never forget. Prenatal care, labor, birth, and post-partum at Plano Birthplace was a dream. Jeannine was always available for any questions, day or night, throughout the whole thing. I would 100% recommend her to everyone.”
- Catherine Bright
